Edward Lacey


Chief Lacey grew up in Gilmer County and is a graduate of Gilmer High School.  In 1990, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science from North Georgia College and began his law enforcement career with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.  Over the next twenty three years he worked in numerous positions in Cherokee County including service as a deputy in the jail, uniform patrol and detective.  He later commanded the Internal Affairs unit, Headquarters Operations Division, Criminal Investigation Division, and Uniform Operations.  Chief Lacey is a graduate of the 201st Session of the FBI National Academy as well as the 5th Session of the Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.  He holds a Master Degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. He received his appointment to Chief of Police from the City of Ellijay in January 2013.
