On April 21, 2008, Mayor Al Hoyle and the Ellijay City Council designated a portion of downtown Ellijay as a local historic district.
Local historic districts have three primary purposes:
To preserve the unique historic character of buildings and their surroundings
To maintain and improve the setting of those buildings
To insure that new structures are constructed from architectural designs and materials that are compatible with their historic environment.
There is always something happening in Ellijay Georgia. Don’t miss it! The Apple Festival is in October each year, but there is almost always something happening on the Square downtown. Live music, car shows, carnivals, and antique sales are just a few of the exciting things you can find in Ellijay, GA.
Ellijay is the historic county seat of Gilmer County, the Apple Capital of Georgia and an Appalachian Trail Community.
Mountain vistas, cold clear rivers, specialty and antique shops, great restaurants, biking, hiking, and so much more await you.
