If you missed Light Up Ellijay this year, be sure to put it on your calendar for 2012 — the first Friday night after Thanksgiving.

The parade was spectacular, thanks to all the businesses and organizations who built clever lighted floats centered on the Christmas at the Movies theme. Our Commercial winner was National Title Pawn and the Chamber of Commerce won in the noncommercial category.

The store windows were beautifully decorated, and the judges were almost stumped in choosing the best. First place went to Misty Hollow Antiques; second to PJ’s Antiques; and third to Cartecay River Trading company.

Kim Ragan, visiting from Monticello, Ga., won the scavenger hunt. Thanks to all the stores which participated.

Please support the local sponsors who helped make this event so special:

Gold sponsors — North Georgia Medical Center and Love those Mountains Realty/Falling Waters Lodge

Bronze Sponsors — AT&T Wireless, Cartecay River Trading Co., Cantaberry Restaurant, Whistletree Pottery, Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association, ETC, United Community Bank and Citizens South Bank.

In addition to the loan of laser lights for the tree, Terry Ellis provided music and sound with entertainment help from Raquel Bustos. The children’s bouncy house was provided by H&R Block. As always, Larry Robinson and city workers did an excellent job with the tree, and Kathy Robinson put together a wonderful parade and scavenger hunt. Along with the Times-Courier we received publicity help from Going Postal, Fetch Your News, and radio station WLJA.

We also thank the strolling carolers Terry and Venae Ellis, Patty and Gary Headley, and Robert Ferguson. Ronny Wright served as parade master of ceremonies; Albert O’Shields was in charge of vendors; and Boy Scouts Troop 402 Venture Crew manned the marshmallow roast.
